CommemorAction 2026: Every life is worth more than their laws, their walls and their weapons!

On 6 February 2026, people in many places in Africa, Europe and beyond commemorated all those people who were murdered, died, disappeared or are still missing on flight and migration routes. As well as all those who died as a result of deportations and racist police practices or disappeared in the isolation of camps, detention centres and prisons.

Every year, at the global CommemorAction, people remember the at least 15 people who were killed by Spanish border police on 6 February 2014 on Tarajal beach on the border between Morocco and Ceuta – as well as the many who disappeared that day. Tarajal stands for all those who have died or gone missing as a result of a European border system based on isolation, violence and systematic impunity.

The theme of CommemorAction 2026 was: EVERY LIFE IS WORTH MORE THAN THEIR LAWS, THEIR WALLS AND THEIR WEAPONS!

The deaths of people on the move are not accidents or coincidences – they are politically motivated and the direct consequence of a murderous border regime, created and externalised by the EU member states and many others adopting the same logics.

Alarme Phone Sahara and its allies have also been part of the CommemorAction 2026. They have shown signs of humane solidarity at times where the externalisation of the European border regime and anti-migrant deals between EU-states and various African governments are producing large scale border violence, ruthless interceptions at sea, mass deportations and pushbacks into desert areas and incarceration and criminalisation of people on the move and their supporters. Signs of humane solidarity against a system that has already killed thousands of people and is denying freedom of movement not only between Africa and Europe, but also inside the African continent.

Here are some impressions of CommemorAction on 6 February 2026:
