Statement by Malian migrants stranded at the IOM Transit Centre in Agadez

A group of migrants from Mali who were deported from Algeria to Niger and who are stranded at the IOM Transit Centre in Agadez addressed the people, the authorities and the President of Mali with the request to facilitate their return home:

Arlit: Protest and revolt by people who were deported against remaining stranded at the IOM camp

In Arlit, around 640 people, mostly migrants deported from Algeria, are currently stranded in the IOM transit camp. On 20th of April, people protested and revolted against the unbearable conditions in which they are currently living.

Raising awareness - for what purpose?

The IOM (International Organisation of Migration) is presently organising an "awareness raising caravan" through different cities of Niger (from Niamey to Tahoua, Agadez, Arlit and others) to "raise awareness of the risks of irregular migration and its alternatives".

But what are actually the aims the IOM pursues?
