Stranded in Niger, with no evacuation flights and no hope of help from the IOM or other institutions, Malian migrants left Arlit in northern Niger on foot on 30 October 2023.
At least 5,012 people deported from Algeria to Niger from 26 July till 18 October 2023.
On 27th and 28th of August 2022, protests by migrants of different nationalities, many of them deported from Algeria, took place in the IOM transit camps in Agadez and Arlit (10km from the town of Arlit) in Niger.
In Arlit, around 640 people, mostly migrants deported from Algeria, are currently stranded in the IOM transit camp. On 20th of April, people protested and revolted against the unbearable conditions in which they are currently living.

Galius Moumouni Efouad was deported from Algeria to the border of Niger near Assamaka, put in quarantine and then brought to the IOM transit centre in Arlit.
